New Delhi (IANP) Protesting women wrestlers in India announced the postponement of the protest after meeting Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. According to Indian media reports, the women wrestlers had a 6-hour long meeting with the sports minister, after which the protest has been postponed until June 15.

In this regard, the women wrestlers say that the New Delhi Police will withdraw the FIR registered against the wrestlers on May 28. If the government does not fulfill the demands, they will consider the demonstration again. Minister Khil Anurag Thakur says that the charge sheet will be filed against the Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh by June 15. He further said that the Wrestling Federation of India elections will be held by June 30, and an internal grievance committee of the wrestling federation will be formed, which will be chaired by a woman.

It is to be recalled that women wrestlers had started a series of protests in April against years of harassment by powerful Bharatiya Janata Party politician and federation chief Brij Bhushan Singh. A few days ago, the New Delhi police tortured the protesting women wrestlers and arrested many of them. The police have recorded the statements of more than 10 wrestlers against the federation chief. Two days ago, the Indian government had invited the protesting wrestlers for negotiations.
